Robins Nursery, in St Arvans, has been awarded funding to create an exciting outdoor space to inspire children’s creativity and imagination in all weathers.
The nursery was given a capital funding grant of £8900 by Monmouthshire County Council to spend on its garden and worked with Landscapes for Learning to create exciting outdoor spaces, including a self-contained allotment for growing fruit and vegetables, a water wall and a covered outdoor classroom with seating.
The revamped outdoor space provides a variety of learning opportunities for young children including sensory, creative and exploratory play.
Hayley Downing, manager at Robins Nursery, said: “Outdoor learning is a major part of our children’s daily routines and we are lucky to have a large garden overlooking beautiful countryside. Thanks to this award our garden now has plenty of sheltered areas that can be used year-round and activities for all stages of learning.
“Our babies love discovering in the sensory garden, our toddlers are engaged with role play activities in the mud kitchen, music and construction areas and our pre-school children are learning about nature and the environment in our wonderful Forest School classroom.”
